TOM DELONGE Teams with The Cartel + Striker Entertainment for STRANGE TIMES Film
DELONGE TAPPED TO DIRECT
Los Angeles, CA (February 3, 2017) – Multi-platinum-selling artist and bestselling author TOM DELONGE and his multi-media company, To The Stars…, are partnering with The Cartel and Striker Entertainment to produce a feature film based on his STRANGE TIMES franchise. As covered by The Hollywood Reporter, the film centers on a rebellious group of San Diego skateboarders, who take it upon themselves to investigate extreme paranormal activity around town, only to embark on an adventure that they could never have imagined.
Production is slated to begin this fall with Stan Spry and Eric Woods from The Cartel and Russell Binder from Strike Entertainment producing. DeLonge will co-produce and serve as the film’s director. In addition, the movie will feature new, original music written and recorded by DeLonge’s chart-topping band, Angels & Airwaves. DeLonge co-wrote the script with Ben Kull. The duo last worked together on the 2014 animated short film Poet Anderson: The Dream Walker, which took home Best Animation at the Toronto International Short Film Festival.
DeLonge originally launched Strange Times back in 2011 as a fringe news site reporting on unexplained phenomena. It grew from there, expanding across multiple properties, including a graphic novel, merchandise, and last fall DeLonge’s To The Stars partnered with Simon & Schuster for the release of STRANGE TIMES: THE GHOST IN THE GIRL, the first in a planned trilogy of Young Adult science fiction novels co-penned by DeLonge and award-winning author Geoff Herbach.
“I grew up in Southern California as a disaffected young skateboarder who broke the occasional law or five,” says DeLonge. “And I was always dreaming about the world around me, obsessively looking for the more unusual and imaginative experiences that life has to offer. That’s the inspiration behind Strange Times, which is about the tribe of broken youth and the restless spirit that inspired me to form Blink-182 and seek out adventure. The opportunity to make this film with Stan and Russell, who are both creative forces and kindred spirits, is a dream come true.“
“Tom DeLonge is not only a music icon, but his work as a director, writer and producer puts him on another level creatively,” says Spry. “It’s an honor to be part of a movie that stems from his incredible imagination and vision. His music has been a huge part of my life for many years, and when the opportunity arose to work with him on such a cool project, I immediately jumped at the chance.”
“Tom has a violently fertile mind that germinates franchise ideas, stories, and characters that readers and audiences globally want to get closer to and go on adventures with,” says Binder. “Striker recognized that gift from the first day we met Tom, and are excited to be part of bringing his unique vision for Strange Times to screen with the relentless support of Stan, The Cartel and AEI.”
Joseph Cohen and Andra Gordon of American Entertainment Investors will executive produce, advise, and assist with the financing and distribution of the project. Casting is currently taking place in Los Angeles, CA.
