It's been a busy summer in terms of reported UFO sightings in the United States.
The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), the nation’s largest civilian UFO group, receives and investigates reports of UFO sightings and potential extraterrestrial activity. According to MUFON data, the number of UFO sightings reported in the month of June doubled from 2014. MUFON received 601 reports in June of 2014. That number exploded to 1179 in 2015.
Mainstream media routinely reports on stories related to UFOs and extraterrestrial life. Here are the top four UFO/ET stories from the the Summer of 2015 thus far.
4. An alien pyramid on Mars
A video was uploaded to YouTube channel Paranormal Crucible on Saturday, June 20 featuring the analysis of a photo that shows what appears to be an unusual structure on Mars.
The photo was snapped by the Mastcam on NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity, and it shows a rocky hill. One rock in the distance looks similar to a constructed pyramid.
The video’s speculative description states, “Due to the size of the object about the scale of a small car I would theorize that the artifact is either the capstone of a much larger pyramid possibly buried deep beneath the surface or perhaps a marker stone.”
This video’s creator comments, “Whatever this mysterious object may actually be is open to debate.” But then this person opines, “But I would suggest, due to its near-perfect design and shape, that this anomaly is the result of intelligent design, and certainly not a trick of light and shadow.”
People have spotted anomalies in Mars photographs since NASA began photographing the planet. Many scientists dismiss claims of animals, faces, or buildings on Mars, attributing these oddities to the brain’s desire to form recognizable objects, like animals in clouds or the Virgin Mary on a piece of toast.
But others firmly believe that NASA’s own photos provide enough evidence to suggest that there is more on Mars than has been disclosed to the public.
3. NASA administrator says he’s been to Area 51
Former astronaut and current NASA Administrator Charles Bolden recently appeared on Hotseat, a UK TV show produced by a newspaper for young people. During the interview, Bolden announced, “There is an Area 51.”
This wasn’t a revelation. But for those of you who still haven’t heard, Area 51 is a real place. It’s been a staple in sci-fi pop culture for twenty-five years, but the secret military installation in Nevada was only declassified by the CIA in 2013.
“It’s not what many people think,” Bolden continued. “I’ve been to a place called that but it’s a normal research and development place. I never saw any aliens or alien spacecraft or anything when I was there.”
2. NASA stops live feed after ISS camera spots three UFOs
Three UFOs, seemingly leaving the Earth’s atmosphere, appeared on a NASA camera aboard the International Space Station. But the live feed was killed just after the objects appeared.
The UFO event was recorded and uploaded to YouTube by user Mister Enigma, who gave his video the sensational title, “UFO Mysteries: UFOs, Angels Or Biological Creatures Seen Leaving The Earth?”
In this video, the NASA live stream is interrupted after two of the UFOs have disappeared from view, but while the third object is still in frame. The feed simply cuts to a warning screen that reads, “Please stand by. The High Definition Earth Viewing experiment is either switching cameras, or we are experiencing a temporary loss of signal with the International Space Station.”
Some believe this video is evidence of extraterrestrial life. And, naturally, conspiracy theorists are convinced that NASA cut the live feed to prevent any additional viewers from catching a glimpse of authentic alien spaceships.
Space is completely littered with all sorts of crap. The objects in this video don’t demonstrate any awesome or unusual flight capabilities or any other unusual behavior that would indicate they are more likely to be alien UFOs than boring satellites or space junk. And, it’s easy to jump to the conspiracy theories. But, as the warning message on the feed clearly explains, there are legitimate reasons for the live feed to be interrupted.
Also, the extraterrestrial/conspiracy claims aren’t helped any by the video’s origin. Mister Enigma is known for creating some pretty hokey UFO videos.
1. Condom-looking UFO photographed over England

Multiple witnesses observed a disc-shaped UFO in the Berkshire, England town of Hungerford.
One of these witnesses, Vanessa Cloete, says she’s seen this UFO on several different nights. She first saw the UFO out her bedroom window. She could tell it was unusual, so she called her neighbors out to see it too.
Cloete sent a photo of the UFO to local media outlet Newbury Weekly News. She described, “The strange thing is that it seems to change shape and sometimes is surrounded by green lights and, sometimes, blue.” The object in her photo looks like a flying condom.
“Whatever it is, it’s round and sometimes flashes,” she explains. “It stays in the sky for up to an hour before suddenly vanishing.”
